Academic Progress

Make sure to stay in contact with an advisor as you advance through your degree. An advisor will help you track your progress, review your aspirations, and ensure that you are on track to meet your goals. Visit the Contact an Advisor page to find the Advisement & Career Services office nearest you or login to your MDConnect Portal or Navigate accounts to message your assigned advisor.

MAP (My Academic Plan)

Once you decide on an academic pathway, you will be able to develop a semester-by-semester academic plan for your entire pathway/program. This is called My Academic Plan (MAP). Your MAP will combine general education requirements and major course requirements from your Academic Requirements Report and organize these requirements in a way which will allow you to maintain a balanced course schedule each term. Your advisor will help you develop a MAP which you can follow throughout your Shark Path. MDC has several articulation agreements with a variety of institutions. When developing an academic plan, it is important to incorporate transfer requirements into your MAP. Review our Transfer Agreement website and discuss how to incorporate transfer requirements into your MAP.

MDC is currently migrating to a new academic planning software which will allow advisors and students to collaborate more closely in the development of an academic plan. View your MAP in MDC's current system. View your academic plan in our Navigate platform.

  • Academic Amnesty
    • If you have prior academic history (older than 10 years), and no prior earned degree/credential, you can request that an entire portion of your academic record be excluded from cumulative grade point average calculations at MDC. An advisor can assist you in reviewing if this process would be beneficial for you.
  • Change of Major Form
  • GPA Calculator - Your grade point average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total amount of grade points earned by the total amount of credit hours attempted. Your grade point average may range from 0.0 to a 4.0. Please use the GPA Calculator to determine your GPA. Note this is not an official Miami Dade College GPA, but rather a tool to help you determine your GPA.
  • SAP Appeals - A SAP appeal is a petition to reinstate your financial aid. An advisor must assist you in completing a degree audit check to outline how many credits and which specific courses you need to complete your degree or credential.
  • The SMART Plan - If you have taken a class multiple times and have not been able to pass developing a SMART action plan with your academic discipline can help you outline the resources needed to succeed. An advisor can help you get this process started.
