Although it may appear that Walter Smith III is a new voice on the scene, he is widely recognized as an adept performer, accomplished composer and inspired educator. Smith’s recent release, return to casual, garnered critical acclaim from audiences and critics alike.
Smith has developed under the wings of many of music’s greats. He is or has been a member of several legendary groups including the Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band, Terence Blanchard Quintet, the Bill Stewart Trio, Jason Moran’s In My Mind: Monk at Town Hall and the Sean Jones Quintet.
Smith has performed worldwide, participating in virtually every international festival and famed venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Village Vanguard and the Kennedy Center. In addition, he has shared the stage and/or appeared on recordings with many important artists including Mulgrew Miller, Billy Childs, Joe Lovano, Herbie Hancock and Dee Dee Bridgewater. He resides in Boston and is chair of Woodwinds at Berklee College of Music.
All concerts are free and open to the public. Live performances will take place at Wolfson Campus Auditorium, 300 N.E. Second Ave., Miami, FL 33132. Building 1, Room 1261. Performances will be livestreamed, except for the student ensembles.
